What does it
cost to get a barcode and ISBN on my self-published book? Answers How
do I submit my manuscript for possible publication? - Send a covering
letter, synopsis, author CV and at least 50 pages or the first three chapters
of your manuscript.
- Submit via email or hard copy.
- All submissions
need to be typed and double-spaced.
- All pages need to be numbered.
- Please
retain a copy of your manuscript.
- Do not send original illustrations.
- Supply a marketing plan which lists similar books that are already in
print and explain how your proposal differs from these, markets that your book
could sell to, besides bookshops and explain how you would promote your book and
whether or not you have media or corporate contacts who would help us to publicise
and market your book.
If you wish your manuscript to be returned,
please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. In most cases, you should hear
from us in eight to twelve weeks. Although all possible care is taken with submissions,
Legacy Books bears no responsibility for the loss or damage of unsolicited materials.

much does Legacy Books pay for manuscripts accepted for publication? Authors
will not be charged a fee for publishing; neither will they be paid a advance.
Instead, author's receive a generous royalty on sale of their books. There is
a minimum sale before receiving royalties on their books. The minimum sale is
50 copies. After 50 copies the author receives approximately 30% per book sold
(depending on indivudual contracts). An example of how your contract with Legacy
Books might look if your work was accepted for publication is listed below. Author
contract example: Between 1-49 copies sold: - Cost to publish
and market: $9 per copy
- Retail cost of book: $19.00
- Royalty to
author between 1 - 49 copies: $0
- Profit to Legacy Books: $10
Over
50 copies sold: - Cost to publish and market: $9 per copy
- Retail
cost of book: $19.00
- Royalty to author after 50 copies: $5 (38% of profit)
- Profit
to Legacy Books: $5
If the author wishes to buy the book for themselves
the cost is "Cost to Publish" plus "Profit to Legacy Books".
So, prior to 50 copies being sold the Author's price for the book would be $19
and after 50 copies have been sold $14.

IMPORTANT: The cost of color books (available only for books
purchased through Lulu) is significantly more than black & white books. When you
select color printing (the Full Color option on the Publish Book page), you are
charged $0.23 for every page in the book, not just pages with color. The
printing costs for a 100-page book would be $19.53 ($15.00 printing + $4.53 setup).
Books distributed through global distribution channels are printed by LSI,
which is different from Lulu's print partner. Their setup costs are different
from those of Lulu-printed books. Back

it cost to get a barcode and ISBN on my self-published book? If you
want to sell your book to bookstores and libraries you will need an ISBN and barcode.
The cost for this is $59.95, which includes - A unique ISBN for
your book
- A scannable Bookland-EAN bar code automatically printed on
the back cover
- Your book listed in Books In Print, the searchable database
that librarians, booksellers, publishers, students, faculty, researchers, library
patrons and bookstore customers use to find the exact titles they need, and the
Nielsen BookData bibliographic database.
- The ability to take your books
into the local bookstore for them to sell
- When you purchase the Basic
Distribution Service, you will receive one year of placement in the Amazon Marketplace
at no extra charge.
NOTE: An ISBN only makes your book accessible
to retail booksellers. Your book will not be listed as "current inventory"
